this or that.
this and that.
a while back, i wrote about exploring this idea –
“what if binaries are what we make up out of fear that we lack capacity to hold it all? what if.. we actually do have that capacity?
when i say “we” i meant humans.. people.. us all..
we are taught and conditioned that many things are ‘this or that’..
what if those were out of fear because we fear or is unsure if ‘this and that’ is too much to handle?
but.. what if.. we do have capacity to hold it all.
both sides of dualities and polarities.
both end of spectrums.
everything.
we have capacity to hold it all.
how does that sound?”
binary is the concept of being in a state of one of two mutually exclusive conditions, which is very similar to the concept of duality.
today, i would say many things are placed into binaries because of
- lack of knowledge/information
- conforming (religious, etc)
and the list can go on. but just because it was placed there, does not mean it is your truth.
there are so many things that are possible with ‘this and that’, with different layers and nuances.
self/inner work can us to build capacity to hold seemingly opposing energies. but sometimes it is as simple as understanding and knowledge – for things that we were taught “impossible”.
eg. you can be angry at your actions yet have compassion for why you did it. (and that doesn’t necessarily mean it is right)
as of today, i have experience many things that i was taught or told to be binaries and duality but are paradoxes instead.
paradox is the idea that two or more things might seem contradictory, but it can actually coexist and reflects the beauty and complexity of human emotions and experiences.
in fact, there are more things that are paradoxically than they are in duality. and i invite you to explore them in your own capacity and pace.
