distinction, nuances and granularity

without, distinction, nuances and granularity.. these are red.

distinction look for a clear separation, a boundary of where something ends and another begin.

nuances look at subtle or hidden traits. it ask for personal experiences and insights to differentiate.

granularity look at level of details or scale of breakdown.

distinction: “what and how are these two different?”

nuances: “what are the subtle differences?”

granularity: “how finely are we breaking this down?”

these are shades of red.

this practice, whether linguistic or emotional help us to better understand our experiences and communicate it.

it also give us more information into what to pay attention to, what we possibly need and what we want to explore.

practice distinctions by drawing boundaries

ask: what is it (and what isn’t)?

look at close concepts like happiness vs contentment rest vs break being alone vs being lonely perservance vs resilient

question yourself on your choice of word, especially if it is a broad one example: "i'm stressed." am i overwhelmed? anxious? is it time pressure? mental exhaustion?

what do i actually mean? do i actually mean something else? is there a concept am i confusing it with?

practice nuances by seeing subtleties

do: noticing and describing.

eg. when you feel angry.. explore:

am i hurt? disappointed? frustrated? feeling unheard?

ask: what am i experiencing? what will give myself and others more information into what is happening?

Practice granularity by increasing the level of details

explore: describing this with more details

ask: what am i lumping together? can i break this into more specific categories? when you talk about an emotion, go deeper into.. what are the physical sensations? what are the thoughts you having? is there an underlying unfulfilled need?
