what is the size of a tub of kimchi in your world?

how we infer what someone is saying, is based on how our world is.

three weeks ago, my friend shared she bought extra kimchi during her food delivery. she also asked me about whether it will go bad if she kept it in the office fridge and that she may bring it home to eat with noodles.

last week, i went to the office and she offered saying i could have it.

in “my world”, for her to ask me about storing and for it to last three weeks.. and still not finished. it must be a tub of at least 250g and above. (i normally get 500g or 1kg pack at home)

when i finally saw it, i died laughing inside. it was a small container.. some food stall would use that container for sauces. it was that small, to me. and i would have finished it in one seating. in “her world”, that same tub lasted three weeks (or more) if i didn’t finished it that day.

there is absolutely nothing wrong that we see and hear the world based on our own world. it is normal. what caused the problem is not being aware of this.

with this awareness,

  • i hope you laugh it off when it is literally just a tub of kimchi
  • take a pause before jumping the gun to blame others for the miscommunication if it is more than just a kimchi
  • ask yourself often and be curious, what is the actual size of that tub of kimchi the other person is saying
